EUC Futsal 2019: the teams for the semi-finals are chosen

The quarter-finals took place on the sixth day of the EUC Futsal 2019. In the first round, at the UMinho's Sports Complex, the University of Malaga faced the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. The Spanish entered full throttle and scored the first goal at the third minute. Without taking the foot off the accelerator, a few seconds later, the second one came. Just like the first, the second half was intense and had a lot of dangerous moments. However, only the Spanish side managed to put the ball in the back of the net, closing the result with three more goals. With a victory by 5-0, the University of Malaga was set to the semi-finals. 

 

In the quarter-finals match between V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and the University of Warsaw, Ukraine´s university checked in for the semi-finals. The game started calm but as soon as the Ukrainians revved up their engine, they no longer stopped. In less than three minutes, Karazin University was already winning by 3-0. With a penalty kick, the Polish still managed to score, but the Ukrainians response didn´t take long. Halftime score was 4-1. Back from the locker room, the Ukrainians were the first to score. The Polish managed to increase their advantage with two more goals, but the Karazin University took no time to score the 7-3 and decide the match.

 

In an intense game, between the University of Minho and the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, to decide who was going into the semi-final, it ended better for the Portuguese. In the first half, despite the numerous opportunities, the Georgian group was the only one able to break the deadlock. In a second half even more intense than the first, the host team, after numerous attempts, managed to reach the draw. The result remained 1-1 until the final whistle. After a 4-2 win on penalties, University of Minho progressed to the semi-finals.

 

The Saint Petersburg ITMO University and the University of Jaén met to decide which one of them book their ticket for the semi-final. In a balanced game, the Russian team was the only one who was capable to make the net tremble, when there was only one second left in the half. The Russians were motivated to turn the score around and, although they equalised, it was not long before the team from Spain took back the lead. However, the Russians were not discouraged and even tied the game again. The final score was 2-2. The University of Jaén would advance to the semi-finals after winning on penalties 5-6.
