Women´s teams complete group stage of EUC Futsal 2019

The 5th day of European Universities Futsal Championship (EUC) 2019 was crucial to qualify the women's teams for the next phase. Still with a few places left in the quarterfinals, all the universities gave their best to continue fighting for the gold medal. After lunch, group B was the first to come into play. University of Evry Val d'Essonne was the last to go for the third journey, in front of Ural Federal University. However, the French team wasn't able to overcome Russian's motivation, losing 2-1 at halftime. The second part of the game gave us much of the same. Through a 10 metres free kick, the Ural Federal University increased and set the result in 3-1, reaching the first place of the group.

Also in group B, University of Zagreb did not go beyond a draw against University of Évora. The Portuguese team tried to tie the match before halftime, but the Croatian goalkeeper stopped all attacks. The Croatians, who had not yet lost in EUC Futsal 2019, imposed their game, finishing the first 20 minutes winning 2-1. In the second half, the Portuguese team scored, which gave some inspiration for the remaining of the game. As a result, the last few minutes of the game were improper for people with heart problems. After some goal opportunities, both teams had problems in scoring, ending the match with a draw (2-2). Despite the final result, University of Zagreb ensured the transition to the next phase.

Group C vibrated at Altice Forum Braga and at Complexo Desportivo of the University of Minho. After all the excitement, University of Munster, who beat University of Porto 4-0, ended up guaranteeing the first spot in the group. The Germans put a lot of intensity in their game, making life difficult to the Portuguese. The halftime score was 2-0. The German lineup continued at a fairly high pace in the last 20 minutes of the match. Without much inspiration in the attack, University of Porto was not able to surpass the defensive wall of Munster, that advanced to quarterfinals in the first place of the group. As for the Portuguese, with three defeats in three games, they will dispute the 9th and 11th place in the competition.

To achieve a place in the next phase, the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University had to face the University of Murcia. The Spanish rushed in and opened the scoreboard right at the beginning of the game. Still in the aftermath of the goal suffered, the Russians tried to restore equality, but with no success. The two universities ended up going into halftime with the placard showing 1-0 to the Murcia team. The Spanish carried on with the foot on the throttle and increased the advantage, not giving any chance to the Russians. The University of Murcia beat the Russian team 3-0 and assured, in second place, their position in the next phase. In spite of their third place in the group, the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University were confirmed as one of the eight best European universities, due to the difference of goals between the other universities.

Today, the male team got some rest, after finishing all the group stage matches. Tomorrow, it's time for the quarterfinals, where eight universities will try to guarantee a place in the next phase of the EUC Futsal 2019.

The last game of the day opposed the University of Minho to the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. After a poor beginning in the competition, the home team rose from the ashes and beat the Norwegian by 4-2. The Portuguese took the lead right from the opening whistle, leaving the Norwegian team quite lost. In the last 20 minutes, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology tried to change the course of the game, but the Portuguese's ambition to achieve victory was undeterred. With this result, the hosts rose to second place, progressing to the quarterfinals of the competition. The defeat against University of Minho did not prevent the Norwegians from advancing in the tournament, as one of the two best third classified.
