Women's teams debut at EUC Futsal 2019

On the third day of the European Universities Futsal Championship (EUC) 2019, the female teams entered the field to try their luck in the competition. Initially the Portuguese team was winning by 0-2 but after the break the Russians took control of the game and conquered the first points for the group C. 

 

Group B also started the games today. The National Pedagogical Dragomanov University started the competition with the right foot, defeating the University of Munster, winning 3-2. The game results changed when both teams were tie (2-2), but the Ukrainian team showed their enthusiasm by shaking the Germany´s goal and setting the final results. 

In the afternoon, the University of Zagreb was the game with the University of Evry Val D'essonne, two formations with great convictions in the competition. The French women gathered at the locker rooms to win for 1-0. In the second time, the story changed. Missing only 15 seconds to the end, it was still possible to dream about the three points. The Croats benefited from a great penalty, which failed to convert in front of the Guardian, dividing the points with the French ensemble (3-3).

 

Group A joined the University of Rouen and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Throughout the match, the will of the two teams to go to the next stage was notorious. In a very balanced meeting, the French women opened the marker and entered the second time to win for 1-0. The second part brought surprises to all present. The Norwecaans turned on the engine and managed to impose their game. With the turnaround in the head, the Norwegian team superiorized the formation of France, winning the match for 2-1.

 

The Lamaçães Pavilion received the first game of group C. From Spain arrived at the University of Murcia, who moved to Braga to try to take the trophy. The meeting began in the best way for the Spaniards, achieving a comfortable advantage even before the break (3-0). At the start of the second part, the University of Porto woke up and reduced the Spanish advantage. Still, the intensity posed by the Portuguese was not enough, having been defeated by 5-3.

 

On the male teams, group D woke up early for the second game of the group phase. On a well-balanced match, the Osijek University tried to gain their spot at the quarter finals but the game against Karazin Kharkiv National University resulted on a tie, with two goals each.

 

Despite being defeated on the first game, the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria kept on the competition to the quarter finals of group D. This time, the Portuguese team won 6-0 against the Israelites and scoring three goals in each half of the game.

 

Although they won yesterday, the University of Coimbra wasn’t capable of beating the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, losing today’s game by 10-4. After losing against the current champions (University of Malaga), the Georgian team studied University of Coimbra technic and won, leaving the Group E final results open.  

 

The University of Malaga took over the front of group E and confirmed the clearance for the knockout phase. With two victories in two games, the Spaniards had to face the University of Kiel, resulting in the victory for 5-0 in favor of the Spanish ensemble. The Germans, still with no point conquered, failed to make history in Braga and saw their dream of reaching the grand finale by finished.

 

In group B, Luck smiled at Saint Petersburg ITMO University, which won the Norwegian School of Economics for 5-1. The Norwegians stood out at the marker in the early minutes, but the Russians quickly reached the draw.  The Russian formation extended his game to wards and placed himself in front of the meeting, keeping the advantage until the final whistle. With this defeat, the Nordics stay out of the fight for the gold medal. The Saint Petersburg ITMO University is waiting for tomorrow to compete for the first place in the group with the University of Camerino, from Italy.

 

The University of Jaén debuted in the best way in the competition. Without many danger opportunities for each side, The Spaniards put in practice the best tactics and went to rest to win by the minimum margit. In the second half of the meeting, the two teams came looking for the goal. The Spanish formation widened the advantage, which made it difficult to the University of Warsaw. Already close to the end, the poles still managed to reduce the superiority of the Spaniards, but failed to avoid defeat by 2-1.

 

The University of Minho was the last team to come into action in the men's race. Playing at home, the house team wanted to reach the title that fled them at the European University Games 2018, held in Coimbra. The hosts had the University of Reims Champagne Ardenne ahead, who needed a victory to continue dreaming of the quarters-finals. The Portuguese ended with the French hope and won the match for 6-1.
