Women's competition chooses first universities for semi-finals

On the seventh day of the European Universities Futsal Championship (EUC) 2019 the female teams started playing the quarter finals and everyone is wondering which team will be the winner. The University of Zagreb, the University of Murcia, the University of Munster and the University of Rouen were the winners and conquered a place on tomorrow´s the semi finals. The Croatian team is playing against the University of Munster and the University of Murcia is facing the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University. The four universities will do everything they can to earn a spot on the podium.

After yesterday´s rest day, it was time to find out which female teams were going to the semi-finals. The University of Zagreb played against the home team and they both fought until the last minute. The University of Minho scored three goals in a row and the odds seemed to be in their favor, but the Croatian team wasn’t discouraged. What surprised everyone was that at half-time, Croatia was winning by 4-3. On the second half of the game, the University of Zagreb didn’t make the Portuguese work any easier and scored again. With a result of 5-3, Croatia made sure that they would be present in the next phase of the competition.

 

At the quarter finals, the Ural Federal University faced the University of Murcia, where the Spanish team won by 1-0. In a game where nothing was expected, the Spanish team scored against the Russian goalkeeper, keeping this result until the final whistle. The Russian team, which fought until the last minute, wasn’t able to score, even after trying a 5x4 strategy. In the last few minutes of the match the University of Murcia tried to score again but the ball hit the goalpost. The Spanish team is moving to the next phase and will try to make history in the city of Braga.

 

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the University of Munster also faced each other at the quarter finals. Although the Germans were the favorite team, the Norwegian didn’t cross their arms, and were the first ones scoring, surprising everyone and exceeding expectations. At half-time the result was 1-0 for the Norwegian team but in the following 20 minutes everything changed. The University of Munster tied the game (1-1) and kept on scoring until they were winning by 4-1. The Norwegian University couldn’t keep up with their opponent and the game ended with another victory for the German team.

 

In the last game of quarter finals, the University of Rouen faced the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University, in a match improper for people with heart problems. Both teams tried, but they didn’t succeed to score in the first half of the game. The last 20 minutes brought goals, emotion and excitement, which no one was expecting.

Though a great penalty, the French team led the match. Losing by 1-0, the Ukranian team increased the intensity and were able to tie. The University of Rouen scored, with a penalty, and made the match even harder fot the Ukrainian. In the last minute of the game, the National Dragomanov Unversity fought and tied, which led to the penalties. The effectiveness on penalties took the National Pedagogical  Dragomanov University to the next phase, being one of the four best classified teams.

 

Besides the quarter finals, the University of Evry Val d'Essonne also faced the University of Porto for the ninth place. The Portuguese team, which hadn’t yet tasted the victory during the competition, scored in the first 10 minutes of the match. Three minutes later, the French also scored, tying the game. The results kept the same until the half-time but when the teams left the locker room, they were both eager to win. The second part of the game was marked by  2 consecutive goals from the University of Porto, which gave them their first victory.
